LOVE AND LOSS

In this artist's book, I explore the interconnected stages of love and grief, highlighting how they often coexist. Despite being perceived as opposites, experiences of love frequently lead to grief, whether through romantic relationships or bonds with friends and family. The book will be structured as an accordion, with each side representing the contrasting themes of love and grief. Regardless of where the reader begins, one side will inevitably reflect the other, showcasing the inherent beauty in both emotions.

Drawing from personal experiences, I aim to create a tribute to both love and loss, incorporating different perspectives and stories from people close to me. The framework for these stages will be based on established theories, including the original five stages of grief by Elizabeth Kübler-Ross: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. In parallel, the love stages will consist of: butterflies, building, assimilation, honesty, and stability, with room for adjustments based on other theories.

Psychedelic art plays a crucial role in this exploration, using vibrant colors and intricate patterns to evoke the emotional spectrum of love and grief. The art representing love features bright, flowing shapes that convey joy, while the grief section employs darker hues and distorted imagery to reflect sadness. As the reader engages with the book, the complexity of the artwork mirrors the emotional journey, with love becoming more intricate and grief clearing with understanding, emphasizing the cyclical nature of these profound experiences.
